The Grand Plan

Change of Scene is a Registered Charity (No 1124989) set up to make available a place of tranquility and positive experiences for children who feel they would benefit from a change of scene.

Our aim is that each child who visits Change of Scene will:

• care and be cared for
• be valued and know self worth
• learn without being taught
• replace negativity with positivity
• gain strength through nature
• have fun and be carefree
• create a happy memory that can never be taken away

At Change of Scene the children experience nature; care for animals; plant flowers; identify birds and song; grow, know and cook seasonal food; make honey; gather wood; build dens; track wild animals; night watch; make camp fires; play non-tech games such as quoits; music, painting, pottery; discover pond life, picnics and much much more.  

We predominently seek to make a life-changing difference for a few rather than a marginal difference for many. . . though, of course, as the years pass by, the few will become many! 

Change of Scene has the greatest beneficial effect when children are able to return on a regular basis, in a one-to-one relationship, because it takes time to redress the disadvantage that they have generally experienced over a protracted period of time. When with us they experience the vagaries of the different seasons, see how life is cyclical, how both good & bad comes & goes; establish routines, adopt responsibilities, gain confidence, influence outcomes, learn trust, gain personal satisfaction from being persistent and, as a result of overcoming difficulties, ultimately gain a belief that it is exciting, not frightening, to face new situations and challenges.
